MAC SPEAK LOUDER LIPSTICK (CREMESHEEN) REVIEW

MAC LIPSTICK

SPEAK LOUDER (CREMESHEEN)

DESCRIPTION: Bright blue pink lipstick.

COST: $14.50 USD $35 AUD

PERFECT FOR: Those looking for a creamy bright dark pink lipstick. I would not recommend this if you are looking for a natural colored lipstick or are afraid of bright lipstick colors.

APPLY WITH: Lip brush (316) or straight from the tube.

REVIEW: I purchased my MAC lipstick off the MAC website. I chose Speak Louder because it looked like a really vibrant bright pink color that would be perfect to wear on special occasions.

MAC lipsticks come in different finishes (E.g. lustre, matte, frost) and Speak Louder is a cremesheen finish. Cremesheen finishes, along with lustres are my favorite finishes because they are quite moisturizing.

Speak Louder is a really gorgeous bright blue pink and goes on very smoothly. It doesn’t take much product to develop a really bright color.

OVERALL: I think this is the pink version of a “bright red” lipstick. Such a gorgeous bright pink color to wear when going out or clubbing (or during the day if you’re brave!). I recommend this if you are looking for a really bright pink lipstick or if you like bright lipsticks and are not into reds.

MAC SPEED DIAL LIPSTICK (CREMESHEEN) REVIEW

MAC LIPSTICK

SPEED DIAL (CREMESHEEN)

DESCRIPTION: Creamy medium blue pink lipstick

COST: $14.50 USD $35 AUD

PERFECT FOR: Those looking for a creamy bright blue pink color.

APPLY WITH: Lip brush (316) or straight from the tube.

REVIEW: I purchased my MAC lipstick off the MAC website. I chose Speed Dial because it looked like a fun bright pink color.

MAC lipsticks come in different finishes (E.g. lustre, matte, frost) and Speed Dial is a cremesheen finish. Cremesheen finishes, along with lustres are my favorite finishes because they are quite moisturizing.

I find that this color comes out different on everyone (Unless MAC has changed the formula). I’ve seen on some people it comes out a nice light pink and on others it comes out bright almost hot pink. Because my lips are pigmented, Speed Dial comes out a really bright almost hot pink color.

OVERALL: I love the creaminess of this lipstick because my lips get a little bit dry. I also really love the bright pink color. I think during the day I will apply this lightly to give my lips a hint of bright color and apply more heavily when I’m going out.

MAC BOMBSHELL LIPSTICK (FROST) REVIEW

MAC LIPSTICK

BOMBSHELL (FROST)

DESCRIPTION: Bright rosy pink with shimmer.

COST: $14.50 USD $35 AUD

PERFECT FOR: Those looking for a  light to medium bright pink color. I would not recommend this product if you have dry lips.

APPLY WITH: Lip brush (316) or straight from the tube.

REVIEW: I purchased my MAC lipstick off the MAC website. I chose Bombshell because it looked like a fun bright pink color.

MAC lipsticks come in different finishes (E.g. lustre, matte, cremesheen) and Bombshell is a frost finish. I find frost finishes a little drying and can sometimes make any dryness on your lips appear more obvious. Therefore, I always apply a little bit of lip balm to my lips before I apply the lipstick or a little gloss afterwards.

I think Bombshell is a cute summery girly pink color. It reminds me of a color the Victoria’s Secret girls would wear.

OVERALL: I think the color is gorgeous! The downfall with this lipstick is that the frost finish just doesn’t sit properly on my lips and can emphasise any dryness. I don’t think I will purchase again, not because of the color, but because I’m not a fan of the frost finish. If you like frost finishes, then I would definitely recommend because the color is pretty.

MAC SWEETIE LIPSTICK (LUSTRE) REVIEW

MAC LIPSTICK

SWEETIE (LUSTRE)

DESCRIPTION: Medium colored plummy rosy pink lipstick. Gives lips a hint of natural looking color.

COST: $14.50 USD $35 AUD

PERFECT FOR: Those looking for a sheer natural color that goes with any look.

APPLY WITH: Lip brush (316) or straight from the tube.

REVIEW: I purchased my MAC lipstick off the MAC website. I was looking for a pink shade that was very natural and decided on Sweetie.

MAC lipsticks come in different finishes (E.g. frost, matte, cremesheen) and Sweetie is a lustre finish. Lustre finishes give your lips a nice light sheen of color and are not too drying. Lustres, along with cremesheens are my favourite MAC lipstick finishes because they are somewhat moisturizing.

I love the color sweetie because it gives my lips a tiny hint of color and makes them look healthy.

OVERALL: I just love how this color looks on my lips! And I love how the lustre finish doesn’t dry out my lips. Sweetie is now my basic natural everyday lipstick HG. I would definitely recommend and buy again!

MAC ZOOM LASH REVIEW (ZOOMBLACK)

MAC ZOOM LASH

ZOOMBLACK

DESCRIPTION: Instant volume, lengthening, long wearing and curling mascara.

COST: $14 USD $30 AUD

PERFECT FOR: Those wanting thicker and longer lashes. People who like medium sized mascara wands.

APPLY WITH: Inbuilt medium sized mascara wand.

BACKGROUND: My HG would have to be Dior Show mascara and Chanel Inimitable mascara. I also like Maybelline Great Lash mascara.

REVIEW: I purchased my Zoom Lash (ZL) off the MAC website. ZL comes in two colors: Zoomblack and Lofty Brown. I chose Zoomblack because I prefer black mascaras.

The ZL comes in a matte black tube and the consistency of the mascara is gel like. The wand is a medium size with a tapered end, which I find is the perfect size to manoeuvre around my small asianish eyes. Because the ZL is quite wet, my lashes take a while to dry.

I’ve had my ZL for about 2 months now and have found the product has dried out a little bit. I don’t necessarily see this as too much of a bad thing because the product is quite wet.

I found ZL certainly does make my lashes thicker/longer and last all day. I have not had any clumping issues with this mascara.

The only problem I have with the ZL is that product builds up around the base of the lid. Therefore, I am constantly wiping the tube because if I don’t it ends up all over my hands and make up bag.

OVERALL: I like the way this mascara looks on my lashes and I think the ZL delivers above average results. I do believe though, there are certainly other mascaras out there that can deliver the same, if not better results for a much cheaper price. The downfall to this mascara is that it can get quite messy.

Personally I would not classify this as a HG because my lashes didn’t turn out as dramatic as I would’ve liked, but I would certainly purchase again.

MAC SELECT COVER-UP REVIEW (NW20)

MAC SELECT COVER-UP

NW20

DESCRIPTION: Liquid concealer in a tube. “Texture free, virtually invisible”.

COST: $16.50 USD $32 AUD

PERFECT FOR: Evening out skin tone, covering any spots, lightening dark areas. I would not recommend this product if you have dry skin or any dry flakey patches.

APPLY WITH: Concealer brush (194 or 195) or fingers.

BACKGROUND: I was previously using Clinique’s Airbrush Concealer, in Fair which is my HG. The Airbrush Concealer is quite expensive and only comes with a little bit of product, so I wanted to see if I could find something that came with more product and cheaper.

REVIEW: I purchased the Select Cover-Up (SCU) from the MAC counter inside Myer, Sydney. I should’ve got SCU in NW15, but the sales assistant gave me NW20. It’s okay though; I can get away with NW20… just.
I have dark circles, redness on the sides of my nose and the occasional blemish, and SCU does an okay job at dealing with these issues.
The SCU comes in a 10ml twist top tube and I find with just a little squeeze, I can get the right amount of product out.
I prefer creamy thick concealers and the SCU is a light liquid consistency. You only need a tiny amount of this product as a little goes a long way.
I squeeze a tiny amount of this product onto the back of my hand and apply using my finger to my problem areas. I find the SCU requires quite a bit of blending and takes a little bit of time to absorb. It also has a strange smell, which I don’t like.
I find the SCU is a little drying under the eyes and the consistency is not thick enough to hide any blemishes. It does an okay job at covering the redness on the sides of my nose. Sometimes when I get a little flakey around the sides of my nose and I apply this product, it tends to make it look worse.

OVERALL: I have a like/hate relationship with this concealer. I find the coverage is not as full as I would like and the consistency is too liquidy. Some days I find the concealer does the job, other days I find it too drying and wish I didn’t apply it. I don’t think I will be repurchasing this product.

MAC STUDIO FIX FLUID SPF 15 REVIEW (NC15)

December 1, 2010 § Leave a comment

MAC STUDIO FIX FLUID

SPF 15

NC15

DESCRIPTION: A medium buildable liquid foundation with a natural matte finish. Comfortable, long wearing, SPF15.

COST: $26 USD $48 AUD

PERFECT FOR: Normal, combination and slightly oily skins. I would not recommend this product if you have very oily skin, dry skin or any dry patches.

APPLY WITH: Foundation brush (190 or 187), wedges or fingers.

BACKGROUND: For about 6 years my HG for everyday use was Clinique’s Superfit Makeup in Cream. I stopped using the Superfit Makeup because Clinique changed the formula. The new formula is runnier and when it dried turned slightly orange.

REVIEW: I purchased the Studio Fix Fluid (SFF) off the MAC website. I am very pale with yellow undertones, so I decided to go with the NC15, which is a perfect match.

I have combination skin  (slightly oily T-Zone and normal cheeks), with a few acne scars from my high school days. I wanted a foundation that would control the oil, provide medium buildable coverage and SFF does both those things.

The SFF comes in a glass bottle with a screw lid. I wish it came with a pump because sometimes I tip a little too much product out. Pumps are available for purchase off the MAC website which I think I will invest in soon.

The SFF is a medium consistency and I find it glides onto the skin with ease and kind of just melts into my face. It does not feel heavy on the skin at all and does not get cakey when I build up certain problem areas. I find it blends quite easily and looks very natural.

After applying the SFF I dust loose powder over my face to soak up any remaining oil and set the foundation.  I find it leaves skin matte with a little bit of a natural glow and lasts all day.

OVERALL: I LOVE LOVE LOVE this foundation! I have definitely found my new HG. I just love the way it looks and feels on my skin and the coverage is perfect. I have been using this for 4 months now and have not had any problems with breakouts. I find I need to cleanse my face twice after using it because it is quite a heavy foundation.
